Recognizing your business plateau
Hitting that $5-8k monthly revenue range is no small feat—it’s proof you’re onto something great! Yet, my friend, if you’ve been in this range for a while, it can start to feel a bit like running in place.
You’re working hard, doing all the right things, still that next level—the one that feels like true freedom—is just out of reach.
This is what we call a business plateau. You’re not failing; you’re just stuck in a cycle, and breaking out means setting the right kind of goals.
Most of us, when we’re first starting, get swept up in setting goals that simply “sound good.” Maybe you’ve got a vision board or a journal full of them.
At this stage of your online business, traditional goal-setting won’t cut it. Why? Because now, it’s about scalability.
Aiming for a six-figure income and consistent $10k months means setting goals that create growth without adding hours to your workday.
And to do that, you’ve gotta stop looking at goals as a “to-do list” and start treating them as a roadmap that aligns with where you want your business—and life—to go.
This isn’t about doing more; it’s about doing better—getting strategic to push past the plateau.
Just you wait. It gets better. Don’t miss this FREE, instant access training from my mentor and friend, Louise Henry:
The unique challenges of scaling to consistent 6-figure success
Ah, scaling to a steady six-figure income—it sounds dreamy, right? But as you get closer, new challenges pop up that nobody warned you about. (Amirite?)
One month, you’re hitting great numbers; the next, it feels like crickets. That constant up-and-down income cycle? It’s exhausting and can mess with your confidence.
Then there’s the burnout—feeling like you’re always “on” but not actually moving forward. You’re constantly busy all the damn time, but if we’re being honest, the growth just isn’t keeping up with the effort. Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing: hitting $10k months consistently means shifting from a reactive “just get things done” approach to a proactive one that’s laser-focused on your long-term vision. It’s not about hustling harder or scrambling for every opportunity.
Instead, you’re setting goals that build predictability and freedom into your business.
You’re thinking, “How can I make my income stable, my processes efficient, and my time mine again?” That shift is crucial because, without it, you end up stuck in a cycle of feast-or-famine income and inevitable burnout.
I’ve created this infographic for you to summarize the do’s and dont’s in setting goals. Keep on reading to get plenty of real-life goal setting examples to go from goal setting theory to exactly how you can put it into practice today.

Real-world strategies for real results
Let’s get down to what actually works when it comes to setting goals that bring real, steady growth.
You’re not a beginner anymore; you’ve already got an audience, a good foundation, and the kind of drive most people only dream of.
But to really scale, to reach that consistent six-figure flow, you need more than just determination (you never thought it would take so long!).
You need strategies that cut through the noise, strategies I’ve seen work time and time again, not only in my own business but for countless entrepreneurs ready to take it to the next level.
With 30 years in business strategy, in all sizes of business, including being an online entrepreneur, I can tell you that the key to success isn’t setting vague goals like “earn more” or “work less.”
It’s about setting specific, actionable goals that turn into repeatable systems. This approach has helped online business owners just like you—those with an audience and ambition, but without a clear roadmap.
When you get intentional, using goals that scale with you, you’ll start seeing results that feel effortless and, most importantly, sustainable.
Remember, scaling isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what works, better. Yeah, I know I’ve said this before, but you know it’s paramount to keep on hearing it. Ahem, moving on...
The 3 Pillars of Effective Goal Setting
So here’s the thing, my friend: scaling your business doesn’t mean just piling on more goals. *Nahhhh*
True growth comes from honing in on what actually matters and building a path that feels as good as it sounds. That’s where my “3 Pillars” come in: Clarity, Simplicity, and Accountability.
These aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the cornerstones that’ll help you transform vague ambition into real, tangible progress.
Clarity: The first step is getting clear on what “next level” success really looks like for you. It’s not just about hitting a number—it’s about what that number means for your business and life.
Maybe it’s more freedom, more time, or the ability to be more selective with clients.
For one client of mine, clarity came when she realized her real goal was to earn six figures while having her weekends back. That shift in focus changed everything in her business and her life.
Simplicity: Let’s avoid the overwhelm trap. When you’re scaling, it’s easy to overload on goals, thinking that “more” will get you “further.” Well, I beg to differ.
Here’s the truth: focusing on just a few high-impact goals is where the magic happens. Pick the goals that will make the biggest difference for your business.
Simplifying doesn’t mean you’re doing less—it means you’re doing what actually moves the needle.
Accountability: Whether it’s a tracking tool like Asana (one of my faves for this!) or a mentor, accountability is key to keeping you on track and making sure you’re adjusting along the way.
It’s easy to lose steam, but with the right system or partner, you’ll stay motivated and aligned with your vision.
Don’t forget to save this graphic summarising my 3-pillar system to effective goal setting to Pinterest so that you can always easily refer to it!
Inspired? Imagine how much more you could achieve with my one-on-one coaching. Want to explore how to make this happen for you?
Misstep: Setting goals without a clear vision of success
Here’s a common pitfall, my friend: aiming for $10k months because, well, that’s the magic number everyone talks about, right?
But what if $10k a month doesn’t actually capture what success means to you?
Scaling without a personalized vision of success is like setting out on a road trip with no destination in mind. Sure, you’ll get somewhere, but will it be where you actually want to be?
Without a clear, meaningful outcome driving you, those goals can start to feel empty, even when you achieve them. (Ugh, right?)
Instead, let’s flip the script. Before setting any goals, get specific about what success looks like in your life. Is it all about the financials, or does it mean working fewer hours, having time for family, or making an impact in your field?
These answers are your compass; they’ll help you set goals that feel both fulfilling and purposeful.
Framework: Vision Alignment Exercise
To get that clarity, try this: take 20 minutes to do a “Vision Alignment Exercise.”
Jot down what you want from your business beyond just numbers.
Think about lifestyle, flexibility, financial freedom, and the type of impact you want to have.
Imagine a day in your “next level” life and describe it in detail.
This exercise helps you set goals that align with who you are and what you’re truly aiming for.
This way, you’ll know every goal is a step toward a version of success that’s meaningful for you. *Yay!*
And here is a super handy graphic for you summarizing exactly this process. Nothing like seeing it in an infographic to remember it all! My pleasure!
Misstep: Overloading on goals and losing focus
It’s a trap we’ve all fallen into at some point, my friend—setting a mountain of goals because, well, more goals must mean more progress, right?
But taking on too many goals at once is like juggling with too many balls in the air. You end up exhausted, scattered, and unable to give any one goal the full attention it deserves.
This overload leads straight to burnout and saps your momentum, leaving you feeling like you’re working so hard but somehow not moving forward.
The real key? Less is more.
It’s about choosing a few high-impact goals—the ones that will make the biggest difference in your business.
That’s why I swear by the “Power of Three” approach.
Think of it like building blocks: each goal is a foundation that strengthens the next, keeping your focus tight and your energy effective. With this method, I’ve helped clients who felt stretched thin refocus and see measurable results by simply narrowing their goals down to three high-impact areas.
Framework: Focused Goal-Setting System Using the Power of Three
Here’s how it works: list out all the goals you’ve been juggling, then go through and identify the three that will have the most impact on your business and life.
These should be goals that align with your bigger vision and generate the most progress.
Once you’ve picked your three, make a plan around just those, setting realistic steps to hit them.
Focusing only on these three will keep you steady, clear, and on track for the growth you want. Mwahaha *manically rubs hands together*

➜ From Online Business Ideas At Home To The Perfect One To Start Generating Revenue As Solopreneur
Revenue highs and lows, month after month
Let’s get real, my friend: nothing disrupts your peace like income that’s all over the place. One month, you’re celebrating a big win, and the next, you’re worried about covering costs.
That rollercoaster of highs and lows brings more than just financial stress—it can chip away at your confidence and make you question whether long-term success is even possible. Many entrepreneurs feel this, and I’ve been there too.
But here’s the thing: those income dips don’t mean your business can’t be stable and predictable; it just means we need a new approach.
To break the cycle, design your goals around creating predictable income streams. This means putting emphasis on client retention and recurring revenue—the kind of stability that lets you breathe easier month after month.
Imagine no longer feeling like you’re starting from scratch every month. Instead, your revenue starts to feel consistent, predictable, and something you can count on.
Your predictable revenue builder system
Here’s a framework I’ve seen work wonders for clients: the Predictable Revenue Builder.
The idea is simple but powerful—focus on increasing client lifetime value and securing stable income by setting goals around clients retention, a product ladder to maximize your revenue per client and potentially subscription-style offers.
Over time, these recurring relationships will turn that up-and-down revenue into a reliable, growing income you can count on. (Can I get an amen?!)
I’ll be honest with you, Isabel… there is nothing like personal, one-on-one advice for your personal development.
Personal coaching has created the most profound moments of my online journey. The clarity you gain from another pair of eyes is unmeasurable!

Need personalized advice about your content marketing, your online business, next quarter planning, or your Pinterest? Let’s talk to explore how I can best support you.
How to achieve reliable income to support your lifestyle and future growth
Let’s talk about one of the biggest motivators behind all the hard work you’re putting into your business: the desire for reliable, steady income that supports both your current lifestyle and future growth.
After all, it’s not just about paying the bills; it’s about building a business that fuels your dreams, lets you plan confidently, and gives you the freedom to invest back into your vision.
Imagine knowing your income will keep coming in, month after month, giving you the space to think bigger and take bold steps without the constant worry of where next month’s revenue will come from.
The first step? Start setting financial milestones that you can actually measure and track—like quarterly income goals or a monthly target for new clients. These clear, attainable markers will give you the consistency you crave and the confidence to reinvest in your business without hesitation.
When I implemented structured financial goals, I saw clients move from “surviving” to “thriving,” watching their revenue grow month by month and knowing they were building something solid.
Then, follow the Steady Growth blueprint
Here’s where the Steady Growth blueprint comes into play. This approach is about structuring your financial goals in a way that balances short-term wins with long-term growth.
Start by setting manageable income goals for each quarter that build on each other.
Then break them down into specific actions for next quarter, but ONLY next quarter (like reaching a set number of clients or hitting a certain sales target each month).
With each milestone, you’re not just growing your revenue but creating a steady income that supports your business and personal goals.
Keep your quarterly goals in front of you, and celebrate each win, big or small.
Tracking and acknowledging these smaller milestones will keep you motivated and reinforce the confidence that you’re building a reliable income stream.
Little by little, this approach makes your income as dependable as your drive—and that’s when true growth really kicks in.
To know exactly how to put this into place, check out this blog:
Avoid growing beyond capacity and burning out
Imagine stepping on a treadmill that only speeds up. It’s exactly like one of the biggest fears I hear from entrepreneurs, especially when scaling: the worry that bigger growth means a never-ending hustle.
You may wonder, “Will I ever be able to take a breath without my income taking a hit?” This fear of burning out is real—many think that growth demands pushing past limits until there’s nothing left.
But here’s the truth, my friend: sustainable growth is possible without sacrificing your well-being.
The key is setting goals that actually respect your current capacity and energy levels. I’ve learned this from years of experience and from guiding clients who were ready to scale but wary of overcommitting.
Scaling isn’t about cramming more into your already-full plate. Instead, it’s about choosing capacity-based goals that allow for growth within the resources you have—whether that’s time, energy, or budget.
I once worked with a coach who was booked solid but wanted to grow. By shifting her focus to a group program that leveraged her time better, she was able to double her impact without doubling her hours.
The Capacity-Based Goal Setting framework
Here’s my framework, I call it Capacity-Based Goal Setting.
Start by assessing what you realistically have to work with: your available hours, energy levels, team support, and finances.
With this, set goals that fit your resources—goals that won’t leave you running on empty.
Understanding and trusting your limits is the secret to scaling sustainably without sacrificing yourself along the way.
Goals like securing recurring revenue, simplifying your offers, and even taking a planned break (gasp!) are key to scaling sanely. (There you have it... I've said it!)
I’ve created a full blog just on this subject. Here it is for you:
➜ Setting Goals For Success With A Complete System To Make Them Happen Without Overwhelm
Achieve freedom and flexibility in business, not just more revenue
For so many, me included, the goal isn’t just more money—it’s the freedom to live life on our terms.
It’s being able to:
enjoy a morning off,
take a vacation without guilt,
spend time with family without the constant tug of work pulling us back.
But here’s where it gets tricky: as you focus on growing income, it’s easy to let your hours creep up, sacrificing the freedom we started out wanting. *Gasp!*
Which begs the question, why to achieve a 6-figure income to become a slave of your own frantic schedule?
My friend, growth should mean more freedom, not less!
The solution? Set “time freedom” goals right alongside your financial ones.
It’s not just about making $10k a month; it’s about making it while keeping your work hours in check. I’ve seen it in my own journey and with clients who, once they structured their goals to protect personal time, found not only greater income but greater satisfaction.
But here is the essential nuance. Scaling up doesn’t have to mean more hours—it can mean smarter work that preserves your freedom.
The Time-freedom, Capacity-based formula
Here’s my “Time-freedom Formula” to make it happen.
Start by defining how many hours per week you’re willing to commit.
Then structure your goals to optimize those hours. For instance, focus on strategies that boost productivity, like batch-working on content or automating tasks.
Set a weekly “time freedom checkpoint.” Review your hours and see where you can streamline. Even just shaving off 15 minutes here and there adds up, giving you back precious time for what matters most.
By keeping “time freedom” at the heart of your planning, you can ensure your business supports the lifestyle you love, not the other way around.
This balance is what turns financial growth into a truly fulfilling journey.
Here is your dedicated graphic summarising the Time-freedom formula for you:
How to stop chasing trends and quick wins without lasting results
If you’ve ever felt like you’re running from one “can’t-miss” trend to the next, hoping this is the one that finally clicks, you’re not alone. Trend-chasing is tempting—it promises fast results and instant excitement.
But in reality? It’s often a recipe for burnout and inconsistency, leaving you with short-lived gains and no real foundation.
I’ve seen it happen over and over with entrepreneurs who follow every shiny new strategy but feel like they’re back at square one just a few months later.
The real solution is to root your goals in what’s truly sustainable.
Instead of getting sidetracked by quick wins constantly, focus on core business goals that build a solid base for long-term success.
Don’t get me wrong, my friend, a carefully selected handful of quick wins are not only desirable but also necessary.
Where it can quickly run you down and impact your income is when you run your business as a list of quick wins.
This approach takes patience, but it’s worth it.
Stability-first goal setting approach
This framework, the stability-first goal setting approach, is all about identifying goals that prioritize consistency over hype.
Start by pinpointing what’s truly essential for a resilient business, such as:
reliable revenue streams,
strong client relationships, and
a well-maintained brand presence.
Instead of spreading yourself thin by trying every new tactic, invest in these core areas.
Building stability means fewer drastic ups and downs, so you can grow with confidence rather than stress.
Create a business that reflects your values and lasts
As entrepreneur, you dream of building something more than just a profitable business—we want to create a legacy.
It’s about crafting a venture that:
Truly reflects our values and
stands the test of time.
This desire goes beyond just making money; it’s about contributing something meaningful to the world, something we can be proud of long after we’ve moved on.
Yet, let’s face it, in the hustle to scale, it’s easy to lose sight of that initial vision and compromise on what really matters to us. (Ummm, what?)
Make no wonder you're/you feel not just burnout but also profoundly demotivated. Here's why. You, my friend, are suffering from misalignment.
The good news? The solution lies in setting goals that align not only with your business vision but also with your personal values.
When I first started focusing on values-based goals, everything shifted for me. I realized that aligning my goals with my core beliefs didn’t just feel good—it also attracted clients who resonated with my mission.
One client, for example, went from feeling like a transactional service provider to building a community that genuinely cares about her work. That alignment is powerful.
This is a must-read blog to achieve a values-aligned business:
The legacy goal framework
This is where my legacy goal framework comes into play.
This system helps you identify and set values-based goals that reflect your long-term vision.
Start by defining what your core values are—things like integrity, community, innovation, or sustainability.
Then, translate these values into actionable goals that guide your business decisions.
For instance, if community is a core value, set a goal to host monthly workshops that bring your audience together, or create content that addresses their needs and concerns.
I know, I know, I’ve already told you a sec ago. Truly, this is a blog you can’t miss, written by my friend Ashlee Sang, my fav brand messaging strategist:
It's time to get off the misaligned goals that only pursue $10k/month-revenue train at all costs.
This reflection not only reinforces your commitment but also helps ensure your business grows in a way that feels authentic and rewarding.
When your goals reflect your values, you’re not just building a business; you’re building a legacy that truly lasts.

Using Pinterest as a traffic generator for your business goals
As an online entrepreneur, my friend, you MUST always have this as part of your goals: to grow your online audience.
Without audience growth, you’ll inevitably keep on struggling with hitting that elusive goal of becoming a 6-figure entrepreneur. (Yup, you heard that right)
So, let’s chat about one of my favorite tools for boosting traffic and visibility: Pinterest!
I know, it might not be the first platform that comes to mind when you think about goal achievement, but trust me, it’s a powerhouse on autopilot .
Pinterest is a search engine for your niche, drawing in potential clients and customers who are actively seeking what you offer.
It’s not just about pretty pictures; it’s about strategically placing your content where people are already looking for solutions.
When I first started leveraging Pinterest, I saw a significant uptake in traffic to my website, precisely 10.5x more!, which helped me significantly move closer to my business goals.
Grow your email list with Pinterest to reach you goals
The beauty of Pinterest is its ability to support email list growth and lead generation.
Imagine creating eye-catching pins that lead directly to your lead magnets, like a free downloadable or a free consultation.
Each pin acts as a little ambassador for your business, driving traffic back to your website, your sign-up pages, your online shop or your online content.
Pinterest isn’t just a pretty platform; it’s a powerful tool that can significantly impact your goal achievement journey.
And, if you want to kickstart your Pinterest for online traffic on autopilot, here is another FREE treat for you: Your FREE Pinterest Start-up Guide
How often should I revisit or adjust my goals?
Ah, the million-dollar question! The truth is, revisiting and adjusting your goals is a dynamic process, not a one-and-done deal.
I recommend checking in on your goals at least once a month. This gives you a chance to evaluate your progress, reflect on what’s working, and identify any roadblocks that might be holding you back.
Think of it like a monthly coffee catch-up with yourself—grab your favorite drink, sit down, and take stock of where you’re at.
Life happens, and your goals should adapt to reflect your current circumstances. Flexibility is key!
By keeping your goals fluid and responsive, you’ll feel more empowered and motivated to push through any obstacles that come your way. Plus, it’ll help you maintain that crucial connection to your deeper desires and purpose in your entrepreneurial journey.
What’s the difference between short-term and long-term goals?
Great question, my friend! Understanding the difference between short-term and long-term goals is like knowing the difference between sprinting and running a marathon.
Short-term goals are your quick wins—those actionable steps you can achieve in a matter of weeks or months. They’re like the stepping stones on your path to success, helping you build momentum and stay motivated.
When you align your short-term goals with your long-term vision, you create a clear pathway to success.
This approach allows you to celebrate the small wins while keeping your eyes on the prize, making the journey feel less overwhelming.
Just remember, my friend, it’s all about balance—short-term goals should support and propel you toward your long-term aspirations!
What is SMART goal setting for entrepreneurs (and why you need SMART PRO goals)?
I get it, my friend, you aren’t a newbie and being reminded about SMART goals might feel like an overkill.
Hear me out.
I sometimes love to go over again basics I learned a while ago. Why?
Because it helps solidify the concepts and identify subtleties that you didn’t notice the first time round. So ready for a refresh with a twist?
SMART goals is a well established methodology for goal setting. The thing?
It comes short of working, especially for online entrepreneurs like you! You need more!
Here come my personal add-on to the SMART goal setting method: The SMART PRO goal setting method!
Here is the crucial reasoning behind my “PRO” add-on.
PERSONAL
You must have articulated what is the personal desire you want to fulfill for you to be motivated to go after a goal.
RESULT-DRIVEN
Answer the question: “what is in it for you?” A goal that isn’t outcome driven doesn’t inspire enough and keep you focused.
For example compare this two versions of a goal: “to create a course to learn Pinterest in Q4” (product-driven) vs. “to launch a Pinterest course in Q4 to empower online entrepreneurs to grow their leads and sales online for more time freedom” (outcome-driven)
OUTSTANDING
Only when you feel a goal is special enough, you give your all at achieving it.
So while goal setting frameworks insist in making them achievable, it is as important that you feel stretched enough to put yoour energy into it.
This framework helps you balance stretch goals with achievable ones, making sure you’re always moving forward without losing your footing!
