So much effort for one piece of content... weekly!
Weekly blogging...
It sounds feasible but...
So many other things need to get done in a week.
Once you press that Publish button, you have a short moment of relief. You have done again, another week, another blog.
You may even breath deep, knowing the job is done. That sense of satisfaction that creation brings.
Then, the high expectations of how well it will perform start… You quickly do a couple of posts and… you need quickly to move on, to start thinking of the next week piece of content.
But are you sure that you are extracting all the potential from that piece of content you’ve long and hard spent creating?
How long do your efforts to really get it out there go on for?
What is the real point of pressing ‘Publish’ if you are not using the many means possible to put eyes on what you have created and want to share.
In fact, that’s the whole purpose of content marketing, isn’t it? Eyes in your content... Importantly, have you thought of how many people will find your piece organically in Google… despite all of your efforts with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)?
This blog is all about getting you a range of ways to repurpose what you have created in many different formats and platforms to maximise your traffic and impact.
Your efforts can have the effect of one wave in the middle of ocean, or a storm in the shore.
With content, more is better.
But it does not need to be yet another different blog more often. ‘More’ can certainly be the same blog in a different form, in a different place. Cool!
So replicate the idea. Let’s multiply the impact of that one piece you have so beautifully created this week.
Don’t think however that you need to do it all. You might not be present in all the platforms. You might not want to podcast, for instance. That is perfectly fine. Trying to cover all platforms can be counter-active.
All the ideas below are there so that you have a menu to choose from. It is up to you to decide what is more relevant to you.
And try new things, that you have not tried before. Testing in marketing is essential, and content marketing is no different. Try different ways to repurpose your content, give it some time and see how it goes. You will discover that one thing that makes such a difference for you and your audience.
14 ways to repurpose your content for content search engines
A great way to get great reach for your content are the content search engines. Seems obvious?… Wait a sec. Let’s see if you are thinking of all of them…
Usually when we think of content search engines, yes, we all think Google.
Now, there are others.
The way to spot content search engines is by thinking what do you use to find answers to your questions, where you can type a query… something you would like some ideas about… some simple steps to follow…
Yes, it is Google, as well as Pinterest and YouTube too! And so many others if you keep on thinking about it. You have very specialised content search engines like SlideShare (the largest community for sharing presentations) or Scribd (the largest social reading and publishing network to discover original written content) among others.
In the spirit of not overwhelming you with too many options you may not have heard of before, I will restrict my suggestions to widely used platforms.
Many wrongly consider Pinterest as a social media platform.
In fact Pinterest is a visual content search engine.
Yes, you can engage with content with likes and comments in Pinterest, however, the core of what Pinterest is about is to enable users to find content.
They key to Pinterest is that the results are image or video based, not just text, as you are used to with Google.
There are many ways that Pinterest helps you repurpose your content:
1. Create 5 different pins related to your content.
Pin over 2 weeks in your boards.
Repost after 6 months.
2. Create a Pinterest story.
Have a look at one of my Pinterest Stories on how to achieve a successful webinar content as an example.
PRO-TIP: You can get Canva Pro and simply with one click change the format of the pins you have created into Pinterest Stories format.
PRO-TIP: Re-use the content from your Instagram Stories.
I have used the same format in my Instagram Stories than for my Pinterest Stories, now stored in my Blog highlights.
3. Share your pins in Tailwind Communities to explode your traffic.
I get that if you have never used Tailwind, you might not know what I am referring to. Tailwind for Pinterest is a fantastic tool to maximise your traffic and automate your pinning to save you tonnes of time.
To understand how to use it, and how you can share your pins in Tailwind Communities, check my blog:
4. Pin in Pinterest Groups.
This is another great way to get more reach just reusing your pins.
If you are wondering what Pinterest Groups are, they are boards in a person Pinterest account that are open to other people to contribute with their pins.
You can spot a Pinterest Group when you see a board that have several circle photos to the right of the Group Board.
In order to be able to pin in Group Board, you apply to the group board owner. This blog from Shawn is a great summary on group boards and how to apply to hers:
5. Share your pins in Facebook groups.
Let me explain. Either you have come across these Facebook groups before or not. If you have not, I strongly recommend that you get this going. The results are fab!
There are a number of Facebook groups dedicated to support people active in Pinterest. They provide you with the ability to share your pins with the Facebook community… and that is magic!
They usually have reciprocity rules, and that helps your own pin to be repined. For example, when you share your pin, you need to repin 10 other pins from that day’s thread.
6. Use pin images in your blog.
It is great to always think where you could share your pins to drive your Pinterest traffic…
It is very common to try many things like the ones I have covered before and still forget the most obvious one: to include your pins in your own blog, as images.
If you are doing it, you are thinking… “Of course!”.
You will be surprised that they are still many blogs without pinnable optimised images. It is easy to get it right.
7. Include pinnable images in other of your blogs: your own promotion!
Including your pins throughout the piece of content it relates to is not the end of it…
You can, and should, include it in other of your blogs:
You can include them when there is an obvious link to the content (have you noticed I just did that earlier on?).
You can include them simply as section separation. In fact, it is your own ads space! Instead of a Google ad that will drive people out of your blog, include an “own ad” to one of your blogs! So much better!
Pinterest is a fantastic way to multiply your content exposure! I would even say more and say that I consider it a must for website traffic. Certainly SEO is important, and getting found through Google is so impactful… but it takes time, at least 6 month. Pinterest will complement, if not surpass your traffic from Google. It is also super inspiring, so have a go if your have not yet!
Google: Your own blog
You must be thinking… what else can I do other than publish my content?
The ways to repurpose your content for Google searches are related to multiplying the ways to find your content. So yes, they are all SEO related. But frankly, as SEO is one of those words that can create ate allergic reactions (haha!), I won’t refer to SEO much. And this blog does not necessarily intend to cover SEO from A to Z.
Let’s crack on with some simple ways to get your content into many eyes.
8. Include a blog summary block in other pages of your website.
Blog summary blocks are sections that pull multiple thumbnails from your blog.
It is a very easy way to maximise the chances that people in your website can easily find other blogs.
You can automate what is shown in a block summary or you can define it yourself, to draw attention to specific blogs you want to push more.
If you select them manually, change them from time to time. Be strategic in what your blog summary block shows, to drive your website visitors to what you want to promote, for instance, an affiliate marketing blog you have written.
You can typically include blog summary carousels or summary blocks with multiple thumbnails in your main page, your About page and at the bottom of your blogs.
The blog summary blocks can show featured blogs, most viewed blogs or related blogs to a certain category you define.
9. Link back to your blog from a guest post.
Yes, this is a grand classic to multiply eyes to your content.
You could be thinking… ‘Wait a second, this is not repurposing my blog!’ Well, in a sense you are, you are converting it into a link, to bring people back to your content. The purpose remains exactly the same: multiply how much your content is consumed.
10. Link back to your blog from other blogs in your website.
If you remember, in n.7 we refer to including pinnable images in other blogs to promote internally within your website.
You don’t necessarily need to include an image to cross-promote within your blog every time. A link works too.
In certain occasions is very natural with in one blog to refer to another one, and just include the link to it.
11. Add video in your blog and re-use it in your website to promote your content.
One of the metrics that Google measures from your site is how long your visitors stay in your pages, in Google’s word, the session duration.
A great way to get your session duration up is to include video in your blogs. This will maintain people more in your pages and drive your content up in the Google searches ranking.
However, this is not exactly repurposing of the original content, I admit.
When it comes really handy to have a video related in your original content is to use it to promote it.
Users prefer video. They watch video. So sprinkle strategically your video in other parts of your website linking back to your original blog.
Now not only you have repurposed your blog but you are multiplying your chances of attracting your viewers longer! Cool!
12. Use your content, expand it and write an ebook.
A great way to establish authority and traffic is to launch an ebook. Even better if you manage to rank high in amazon, for instance.
This option is not for everyone, obviously.
Think what other related content you have, that you could use in the ebook and consider how you can bring a fresh approach that drives interest.
There you have it!!! Even when you have hit publish, there are a great range of opportunities to multiply the visibility of your content in your own website to start with. Collabs and back links will help you in the longer term too. The more your content delivers value, the more other content creators will backlink to your content. So exciting!
YouTube
I hear some of you already! ‘Oh, no, I don’t feel confident to be on video, YouTube is not for me’. In a sense, I feel the same!
You can repurpose your content with no need for you to be on video. This is how…
13. Summarise your content in slides and put a voice over it.
That easy! No need for you to be on the video.
Just record yourself while going through your slides and post the video.
The great thing is that you can do retakes, edit as needed.
Identify your keywords for YouTube, create your caption.
It is super important that you create an appealing thumbnail that shows a strong promise to your audience.
14. If you have a podcast, video yourself while doing the podcast and post to Youtube.
Admittedly, this requires quite a level of ease, both on podcast and video.
If you already have a podcast, it is a great way to increase the reach of your podcast. More importantly, it is the best way to be found, because YouTube is searchable!
Give a go at recording on video your podcast, and post it to YouTube when you feel comfortable.
YouTube is a great channel to drive traffic back to your website. It may intimidate you at the beginning. So start with small steps and get a feeling for it. Don’t try to make it perfect, ensure that you provide value.
18 ways to repurpose your content for social media
You have plenty of options to repurpose for social media these days.
While it is important to expand the reach of your content, there is no need for going over board with social media.
Why? Because it can be counterproductive! You can end up super overwhelmed trying to cover all algorithms and engagements!
Decide what social media channels you want to concentrate on, and don’t try to cover it all! You can try different social media platforms from time to time, obviously, when you have established a rhythm and process with the ones you use already.
So, as with the rest of this blog, the list below is for you to choose from a menu of options.
15. Post an inspirational quote related to your content.
Inspirational quotes work particularly well and will help with engagement.
Just don’t over do it! Some accounts become just a repertoire of quotes and your voice gets lost. Mix it ip.
16. Post a statistic that creates curiosity to know more.
Never forget what is the purpose of your posts, to drive traffic back to your content.
Create post that are impactful to drive your followers to action.
17. Create a carousel with 3-4 extracts from your content.
Keep it simple (2-3 words are better than a long sentence or bullet points).
Mix it up with images or graphics.
Carousels drive up the count of engagement with Insta, so use them to tell a mini story or a take away from your content.
Add a call to action at the end.
18. Create posts over 4 weeks teasing from each of the sections in your blog.
Don’t fall in the trap of only sharing your content in the week you release it.
Tease your post over the next 4 weeks, taken inputs from the different sections of your content.
This way your content is live and promoted much longer.
19. Create an Instagram Story with interactions.
Create an Insta Story where you build up your content from the problem statement to the promise.
Share a personal story related to your content. Show that you too face the same challenges/ questions / mistakes.
Use interactivity in your Stories. Ask questions, include polls. This creates a conversation with your audience instead of a broadcast. So much more impactful!
20. Create an Instagram highlight from your Stories.
This will make your story live in your main Insta page and have far more longevity.
You can create a highlight specific to the content, or a highlight that shows a number of your blogs.
Check out my Insta to see some of my Insta blog highlights.
Chose a striking cover for your highlight so that it draws the eye in your Insta page.
21. Create an Instagram Reel.
A very easy way to create an Instagram Reel is from your Stories. Download your Stories content and upload as a Reel to your feed.
Check out my blog on The Ultimate Insta Reels Tutorial To Explode Your Instagram Reach & Engagement The Easy Way.
You can also record yourself covering a couple of tips from your content and overlaying additional text to summarise them. This works marvels.
I love Natasha’s Reels @solstudiomarketing as a great example of how you can create really impactful Reels. She has great advice in Insta!! You can also find her in her website Shine with Natasha.
22. Create an IGTV video
If you have a video longer than 1min, create a video for IGTV.
The reason why it makes sense to do this from time to time is that:
In some cases you may want to have a bit more time than the maximum 30seconds Reels give you.
The Insta algorithm loves when you post across the different formats it offers.
23. Go live in Insta and share insights from your content... creating the need to know more.
Don’t forget to check out this blog for a super easy tutorial to create Insta Reels:
You like it, you hate it, you are not using it… Facebook remains a great platform to maximise the reach of your content, even without ads spend.
I am a late comer to the Facebook world… I must admit it. Loving photos and videos, my natural social media platform has been Instagram.
I just installed Facebook on my phone… truly, only a few months ago! Yeap! Shocking but true.
I am converted to Facebook!!!
Why?
For the community element.
Such an easy way to connect and extend your reach. Fully recommended!
Apologies to those among you who have been in Facebook for long… It must be shocking to you to hear me saying I just jumped into it not that long ago! 😀
Here are a number of repurposing opportunities for your content in Facebook:
24. Post in Facebook a photo and a summary of your content.
Get in the habit of posting in Facebook at the same time that you publish your content.
Squarespace offers an automatic feature to post in Facebook right after you publish your blog, which I love. Zero effort. You can check it out in my Facebook page.
25. Join Facebook groups, interact and get others to comment or post your content.
There are many Facebook groups. Find the ones specialised in your niche or general ones for bloggers and content creators.
Many will offer weekly opportunities in group’s threads to share your content, usually with group rules where you commit to share the content of others in the group.
It is really effective and you will start creating your own network of contacts.
I love Bloggers Camp, hosted by Arfa Nazeer, from She Means Blogging.
26. Find collabs in Facebook groups.
Many Facebook groups offer weekly collabs opportunities. Find the right match for your content. Reach out and offer your ideas.
This takes time and will not systematically work. Be patient and keep on trying.
Collabs are a great way to contribute a guest post and link back to your content, obviously always following the rules of your guest.
27. Go live in your own Facebook group.
You may already have your own Facebook group and all the above is really familiar for you.
Time to go live in your Facebook group! You can reuse the slides you created for YouTube here.
Set the expectations of your audience on how long it will last.
Pick up questions from the chat as it makes your session interactive.
28. Don’t forget to connect your Instagram account to Facebook.
When you connect Instagram & Facebook, your Instagram posts and Stories will appear in your Facebook page automatically. Cool!
Twitter remains an important social media platform. You can reach a different section of your audience than with Facebook & Instagram. The upside of Twitter is that the incremental effort to tweet is minimum. You only need a striking caption, a photo or video. You can reuse what you have used in Facebook.
29. Tweet a short message with a graphic.
Include a link to your content.
PRO-TIP: Ensure that your tweet creates interest to know more to get click throughs.
30. Tweet a short video.
Did you know that videos views in Twitter have increased 62% from 2019 to 2020? Use video to maximise impact.
You can use either horizontal or vertical format.
TikTok & Clubhouse
31. Post in TikTok
You can reuse the video you created for your Instagram Reel and post in Tiktok.
Keep Tiktok light and entertaining.
You might not be using Tiktok yet for business. It gives you significant larger reach beyond other platforms. Ensure your content is easy to consume.
32. Use your content for a chat in Clubhouse
Jump in a chat room and exchange ideas from your blog with others.
Repurpose your content for your podcast
Not everyone has a podcast, so just skip if you don’t… or, maybe, consider doing one.
33.Use your content for your podcast… or the other way round!
You can use your content as the basis for one of your podcast episodes.
Or one of your podcast episodes can be the basis for your next blog or video.
34. Attract a guest speaker thanks to your content.
Your original piece of content can help you pitch to get a guest speaker in your podcast. Don’t hesitate to use it.
7 ways to repurpose your content for your email list & online business
Your content can be used in plenty of touch points through your online business. Let’s look at some of them.
35. Tell a story related to your content to your list.
This helps you maintain the contact with your email list regularly, ideally weekly.
Don’t just tell them, “new blog is up, here is the link!”.
Use your email to share a story, a personal story is even better, to your list. Or share a personal view.
Invite them to read more about the subject with a link back to your content.
36. Create a freebie related to your content specially for your list.
Think about what freebie you can create related to your content. Share only with the people in your email list.
This provides exclusive value to them and it makes it even more attractive to click through and discover the rest of the content.
37. Link your content in your introductory email series for people joining your email list.
As you know, it important to have a series of emails preset for people joining your list.
It is in your introductory email series that you present yourself and establish the relationship.
It is always a great idea to share some of your content in this initial email series to let your new audience discover the value you can bring to them.
38. Include a link to your best content in a Thank You page or a lead magnet.
Instead of a simple Thank You message after people fill a form for a lead magnet, include links to some of your content. It works really well if the content is related to the freebie.
You can also include the link in your freebie.
This is a great moment to provide more value to your leads.
39. Use your content in landing pages of your sales funnel.
You have already created graphics or video clips with quotes or statistics for some of your social media.
These are impactful visuals that you can reuse as a video or a graphic in your sales funnel landing pages.
They can provide strong reinforcement to address a key objection, or demonstrate your product results.
40. Use in your sales funnel email sequence.
The same way that you can use graphics or video in your sales funnel landing pages, use part of your content in your sales funnel email sequence.
Storytelling works great in this context.
It is great when your content helps demonstrate your product promise.
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Reuse and adapt from your original content in 1-2 paragraphs.
41. Repurpose your content to deliver a webinar.
Summarise your content into a set of slides.
Use as the basis for a webinar.
Webinar do not necessarily need to sell something at the end. They are great means to grow your email list.
As you see, repurposing your content is very powerful, including for your sales!
Your BONUS tip: Be super productive batching your visuals creation
As you have seen with repurposing your content, you can be faced with different formats frequently. Unless you approach this systematically, you could spend quite a lot of time creating again and again the right visuals for you repurposed content.
You don’t want that!
The one thing that truly streamlines your workflows is to batch your work. Create supporting photos and videos for your content once and reuse multiple times.
There is a real difference in productivity with this.
You can also take your productivity one level up and operate like the pros. Reformat your visuals with one click using Canva Pro, which automatically change formats for you!
Below are the main formats to create. There are many others, but these should work well across most platforms with some cropping from time to time.
