Free tools…. Such an amazing thing!! My favourite one is without a doubt Canva. So I wondered for some time what makes Canva Pro, the paying version, worth it…
After all, Canva free version is packed with sooooo much value that it’s difficult to imagine what else one would need…
So I wanted for some time to answer this simple question: is Canva Pro worth it?
Then I understood.
And the new world of Canva Pro features and benefits opened up in front of me. I constantly use the Canva Pro functionality.
Every day.
I wouldn’t be able to operate without the transparent background download option, for instance.
Yes, you can do this in other tools like Photoshop… however, they aren’t free and frankly, are so much more complex to use and master. I am a lover of the Adobe family, I trully am, and Lightroom will almost open every day on my mobile to edit photos…
However, since I have a Canva Pro account, there are soooooo many things I just do in Canva Pro in a fraction of the time!
Literally!

I was lucky enough for many years to use the Adobe CC bundle to be able to do this but… believe me, it’s soooooo much more costly than Canva Pro, plus it’s so much more complex to navigate your way in Photoshop!
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Adobe products and will recommend them every day but… I also love to spot new tools that simplify my workflow and, specially, make me achieve end results fast.

Canva Pro feature #2: Design mockups with transparent background
Let’s combine two Canva Pro features now: the Canva Pro Background Remover with downloading a transparent background file!
Are your offering freebies to grow your email list?
Are you selling digital products like online courses, ebook, templates?
Are you selling prints or gifts with printed photos or graphics?
Are you selling any other type of digital products?
Mockups are essential for you!
Marketing studies show that your conversion rate increases significantly when you show the final product.
I know, I know… there are websites out there that enable you to do mockups for free. The majority will not let you download your creations background for free with high resolution… You know what I’m talking about.
In Canva, you have a range of mockups you can create directly in Canva (even with the free version) and you can then use the Canva Pro feature to download a PNG file (high res) with transparent background to then use your mockups wherever you want.
Or…
You can create your mockups in another site with background, then import the files you have created to Canva and use Canva Pro to remove the background and download as a PNG (high quality resolution)!
Sooooo powerful.

Canva Pro feature #3: Achieve shapes with soft shadows
Shadows in your designs and posts are a great way to make something pop up.
There are 2 things that you should not do over do with shadows, though!
Too many shadows everywhere
Shadows that are too blunt, too sharp, too in your face
Shadows in objects, shapes and graphics are fantastic as long as they are subtle.
If you’re reading this, I’m pretty sure that you’ve already “played” with Canva sufficiently to know that you can drop a shadow to a photo and fonts.
However, if you’ve ever tried to drop a shadow to a shape in Canva… you can’t!
The easy workaround that is widely known is to duplicate the shape, change the colour, move it to the background and apply transparency.
Yeap! I also love sharing free hacks with you. 😉
But wait!… There is a disadvantage to this method! What you achieve is not a soft shadow. It doesn’t feel natural.
Shadows are far greater when they don’t hit the eye as a graphic trickery. Subtlety is the word!
And this is where the Canva Pro feature to download a PNG file with a transparent background comes super handy!!!!

How many times have you been stuck because you wished you could use music in your designs and can’t because of copyright issues or a very poor choice of free music.
Music in your designs is a great way to instantly create a certain mood. It’s also makes your content far more memorable. That’s why:

Instagram Reels and Tiktok are so successful (among other things, obviously)
So if you aren’t using music yet, consider doing it from time to time, where it makes sense in your posts or Pinterest video pins or Pinterest idea pins.

Well, yes, Canva offers excellent value for free in terms of graphics, photos and so on.
However, there are a few trade offs with that!
Everyone who uses the free Canva version is likely to use the same more often.

Your free choice of videos and music is particularly limited.
You will find extraordinarily liberating not to be limited by what you can or can not use because you’re using the free version in order to achieve the internet marketing you want (and need).
